By the Numbers: A Surge in Visitors and Revenue
The figures tell a compelling story. The sector's added value saw a remarkable jump, growing by 9.7% in H1 2025 compared to 3.2% the previous year. But the most telling statistic is the influx of people: Morocco welcomed a staggering over 11 million tourists in the first seven months of the year alone—a 16% increase from 2024.
This momentum peaked in July, with 2.7 million arrivals. A significant portion of these were Moroccans residing abroad returning for their summer holidays, underscoring the enduring connection of the diaspora. Furthermore, classified tourist accommodations reported a 13% rise in overnight stays this June, a significant acceleration from the 8.4% growth seen a year prior.

He credits a multi-pronged approach for this success. The Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT) has been pivotal with its new tourism roadmap and aggressive marketing campaigns, which have resonated strongly in key European markets.
"Improved air connectivity has been a game-changer, making it easier for visitors to travel from European hubs to our cities," Saadi added. "But we can't overlook the 'Atlas Lions' effect. Our national team's incredible performance in the 2022 World Cup put Morocco on the global map like never before. We tracked over 150 million Google searches related to Morocco during the tournament—that kind of exposure is priceless for a tourist destination."

Emerging Trends and Challenges to Address
Despite the overwhelming positives, Saadi points to a crucial trend that the industry is watching. "While we have more visitors, the average length of stay is shortening, from about six nights to three. This is a challenge we must address, as longer stays directly impact local economies and overall revenue."
He also noted that while Marrakech remains the undisputed king of Moroccan tourism, there's a conscious and ongoing effort to diversify. "Initiatives in the Atlas Mountains and other regions are promoting cultural, adventure, and business tourism to spread the benefits and offer new experiences."

"These events are not just tournaments; they are global showcases that will elevate Morocco's profile immensely," Saadi stated. He acknowledges logistical challenges, particularly for the Africa Cup, which falls during a peak season, but sees them as opportunities for growth.
For the 2030 World Cup, the focus is on diversifying accommodation. "We need more than luxury hotels. A range of mid-range and eco-friendly lodging is essential to cater to the influx of global fans," he emphasized.
